Who are, what is, CHEGA?

With CHEGA's rapid rise to popularity in the election, and the fear foreigners may have about the party's position and policies on immigration, here's an opportunity to talk direct to a party member and local politician - Miguel Nunes Silva.

Let's take a look beyond the soundbite hype and superficial name-calling, let's see if the 'far right' and 'extreme' labels are justified and bring a conversation where there may be conflict and discussion where there could be division.

The first signs of celebration?

With the aim of involving the educational community in the municipality of Alcobaça in the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April, the Municipality challenged schools to create posters alluding to this seminal date in the history of democracy in Portugal.

Check out the winning students and their schools in the images.

The works demonstrate well the creativity of their young authors, but also all the work that the schools and families of these students have developed in order to convey to them the importance of the April Revolution in the country's recent history.

I therefore congratulate all the participants in this competition and the entire school community for getting involved with such creativity and democratic spirit.

The President,

Hermínio Rodrigues

"The main opposition to the current government, the Social Democratic Party (PSD) has formed an alliance with the Popular Party (CDS-PP) and the Monarchical Popular Party (PPM), calling it the Democratic Alliance (AD) and is led by Luís Montenegro, a party member of the PSD.

For these elections, eight parties stand out, competing to elect as many deputies as possible. Among the various proposals, parties, both on the left and on the right, agree that it is necessary to reform the National Health Service (SNS), as well as reform teachers' service time and career progression."
